After a long break in motorsport, Daimler-Benz decided to take on new sporting commitments again in the late 1970s - and the first results were not long in coming: at the Vuelta a la Americana Sud, the first 5 places went to the Stuttgart-based car maker and more great successes were to follow soon.
A guarantee of success: the coupé version of the Mercedes 450 SL, the SLC 5.0.
A year later, the model could achieve another major victory in Africa. The Rallye Bandama, which has been held since 1971, is considered one of the toughest rallies in the world. In 1972, for example, not a single one of the participating vehicles made it to the finish line.
In 1979, Daimler-Benz achieved a four-fold victory here, and a year later another revised model of the 450 SLC prevailed in the rally.
The special edition Bandama pays homage to the successful sporting history of the 107 series with more than just its name. The rally perforations are also reminiscent of the sporting legacy of the model from which the leather of the new special edition originates.
