Dakar

Built in 1984

The year is 1984.

The car manufacturer Porsche decides to take part in the Paris-Dakar rally for the first time and is developing an all-wheel-drive vehicle based on the Porsche 911, which is supposed to be capable of the toughest long-distance race in the world. Internally it is given the model name 953.

Ultimately, Porsche is starting with three vehicles: Racing legend Jacky Ickx, French rally driver René Metge and Porsche technician Roland Kussmaul are at the wheel.

20 days and over 120,000 kilometers after the start, Metge is the first to cross the finish line in his 911. It is not only the first victory for Porsche, but also the first victory for a sports car in the Paris-Dakar Rally.

The Porsche 911, from which the interior leather of our new special edition comes, was also built in the same historic year.

Zuffenhausen

Made from the interior leather of a Porsche 911 (G-Series) Targa

Built in 1982

In form of a Targa the Porsche 911 was first presented to the world in 1965. Unlike the classic convertible, the roof of a Targa model cannot be folded in completely, but is manually removed as a hard top. The rear window is permanently installed.

The concept was intended in particular to counter the safety concerns about the convertible by combining the freedom of an open vehicle and – thanks to the rollover bar – the safety of a Coupé.

Where it all began: The first Porsche sports car (Model 356) was built at the same place where Porsche vehicles are still produced today. In the Stuttgart district of Zuffenhausen.

In homage to the cultural heritage of this district, the “Zuffenhausen” lettering now adorns our new special edition and it is named after this very place.
