The works

At first glance , Jean-Michel Basquiat 's paintings are reminiscent of street art. His imagery is restless and sketchy. His ideas and inspiration come from anatomy books, art history and his experiences with street life in New York.

Although the words and sketches that make up his signature works may seem confusing and chaotic at first glance, they often tell fascinating stories. Basquiat addresses his own experiences with racism or dedicates his works to impressive black cultural figures and athletes of his time.
